I tried to create a WordPress site for myself a few months ago and found it quite difficult to use, and difficult to adapt to meet my needs for a portfolio site. I was looking for quite a plain and clean layout but struggled to find an attractive one for free, as I wasn't looking to pay at the moment. This one looked promising and easily adaptable but any design changes required payment.
This may prove to be more suitable for the client as they should be willing to pay a small amount to allow the design to be created just for them, but for now I am going to look into Wix for a personal website and see how I get on with that.
