Draft Communications Plan

I received the draft communications plan, outlining the content and giving more details about the forthcoming Our Happy Place annual report. On the brief it was stated that they were considering a new logo and colour scheme, and this draft features a new logo design.
The logo I have been supplied with seems big and clunky, using an outdated looking typeface in Bauhaus and featuring a small smiley face in the counter of the 'O'. The reference to the old name of the organisation is included on the logo with text above and below the 'Our Happy Place'. As I look to start designing I am disappointed by the logo, as I don't feel I will be able to use it as the focal point of the visuals. I later received a full colour version of the logo:
This technicolour version uses colours that I wouldn't have put together, combining bright yellow with lime green and a darker, almost khaki colour. I was hoping to maintain the colours from the logo in a similar way that the purple was used for the previous year's but I think it would look ugly to use too much yellow and green like this in the design of the report.
The branding section of the communications plan shows that I can't change the logo now as it has been chosen following consultations with partners and local people, which is a disappointment but hopefully I will be able to minimise its use in the report.
Their interest in social media is an exciting development from the year before, and I might be able to bring some social interactivity into the designs.
